Gear Lust- Evol Audio Fucifier

This device by Evol Audio called the Fucifier is a distortion synth and sound shaper.  It looks like the distortion effect in Reason, but in boutique hardware form.  This is the sqrt hard on maker box.  Then you see the $2k plus price tag, and you realize that you aren't making love with that hooker in the window tonight.

Kronos Quartet Concert Review- Lied Center 4/13/10

Last night I saw the Kronos Quartet perform a wonderful concert full of contemporary string music.  Terry Riley was heavily represented, and they also played interesting pieces with ethnic heavy overtones (which I love).  Some pieces were perfect combination of ethic Read more »

New Track

Ram the Manparts by bfcalex

So I was sort of inspired by early posts about having a million half-finished tracks laying around to just make something and finish it no matter what. I tried to turn down the self-editing a little bit and just get a damn track done. It's not that long, but I knew if I spent any longer on it I'd start to hate it and never finish it. So I spent probably two days (not in a row) writing/recording/arranging. Then another day mixing. Then a few hours "mastering" later. I always feel like learn more and get more songwriting "practice", i guess you could say, from actually finishing something, even if I don't love the results.

phanta sizin

so apparently korg has made an ipad electribe emulator.

article about dat.

i really, really like the idea of being able to control software synths with a touchscreen....but the absence of everything else (ie a keyboard and a real sound card) really brings out the tech curmudgeon in me. i wish ni would come out with a box that has an mpc 9 or 12 pad, two octaves of keys, 4 big chrome knobs (to assign filter cutoff, resonance, lfo rate, lfo amount, or any other hyper-tweakable parameter you wouldn't want to use a touch screen for) and a touch screen. oh, and maybe an analog filter built in ahead of the output.
