Intellectual Stimulation? I am usally against that . . . .

Check this article/blog post out, it is an interview with Curtis Roads and was in the 1988 computer music journal.  The part that caught my attention was the intro by the interviewer Brigitte Robindore'.  Most everyone on here makes something artistic, so a thought provoking conversation in an Ivy League wanker magizine from when most of us weren't old to know how to wank, may be entertaining, and helpful in the creation process (yeah, i gots writers block suckas, per usual though).

RobindorĂ©: In a 1988 interview in The New York Times, the instrumental composer Olivier Messiaen gave his rather remarkable perspective on electro-acoustic music: “The ancient musical modes lasted for ten centuries, tonal music only a few centuries, three centuries really. Serial music lasted about fifty years. Aleatory music should last for a few days, Minimalism a couple of weeks. What will last longer, I believe, is electronic music, or electro-acoustic music. Some composers do this, some don’t; I don’t - but even for me it has changed music. I cannot hear the orchestra in the same way, for instance, because of electro-acoustic music. It has not yet given us new masterpieces, but it has given us new timbres.” With the vantage point of a solid 30 years in the field, can you concur with Messiaen’s opinion concerning the lasting nature of this genre? And has your perspective changed over those years or only been confirmed? And what of his comment that the field has not yet offered (as of 1988, that is) any “masterpieces” such as those yielded by Western art instrumental and choral music composers over the centuries?

you have so many machines Richard

Jason's post kinda half-woke me up from my synth hibernation, and today I saw the above page...for this:

Makes the Machinedrum look tastier. It would be really nice to rock that in combination with the Machinedrum and never use my laptop for music again.

My Computer Has Techno Font Syndrome

Certain websites give me techno font, including Jason's tumblr. I've looked at it on other computers and it looks normal. It's hard to read but it looks awesome.

Hardware Lust

I've got it pretty bad.

Picked up one of these this week:

... mostly because I'm scared to spend the money on what I really want:

and wanted to start out somewhere.

Who else has the fever? I almost considered picking up a soooooper cheap used Roland R-8 as well. Ae used one, so hey, it can't be all bad, even though the built-in PCM sounds are pretty crap. It's one of those ones you need "ROM cards" to expand the palette with, though. And that is totally gay.

A synth might be a better option, but... everything out there (that's less than $500) seems kinda disappointing. I know TWH loves his MicroKorg (or used to), so... what pieces of sound-generating hardware have you known and loved, and possibly still curl up next to on a stormy night? sqrt, this is your opportunity for an entertaining MC-303 story. Saw one of those, too, btw, but $150 was a bit much to go for on nostalgia alone.

Lust with me. You know you want to.

Darkware VST's

I have been looking for a pitch shift vst to use on a live incoming audio application, so I hit KVR up and stumbled one this,  Darkware.  It appears the fascination with anime porn has spread farther than I anticipated, cause this dude puts naked anime chicks on his vst skins.  Some of the shit look pretty strange (it seems to be a home for cheap and quick glitch/IDM/wanker sounds, since the word "glitch" is used in a handful of the titles), but some got drawed on titties on the GUI.  I know Broken Fader as a rule is usually a go on drawn titties and music in combo, but this ventures into geeker shit that I can't nor would want to comprehend.

and I quote from the site- "World's first hentai GUI'd VST"

I downloaded the pitchslap and got out of Dodge.

new jams.

so i've been taking this drawing class called "exploded drawing"
this is my final project.
(give it a while to load, yes it's supposed to be that big.)

Ok chodes, now that we've all been circle jerking about Autechre for two weeks, I'm gonna switch up the choonage a bit....

I put this up on my blog, too, but since shit is changin all the time over there, and since yawll prolly never look at it anyway, I want you to have this here, too:

THE JAM

This is a Cex b-side, unreleased in the U.S....it's one of my favorite tracks of all time. It's probably 10 years old at this point (I dl'd it off Cex's napster account in 2000)

I'm sure you all know this already...

...but there's currently an 8-hour mix being broadcast at autechre.ws. I've only been listening for ten minutes and it's already gone from acid to electro to 'ardcore to gabber to autechreness. Not sure when the mix started, but it's lush. God bless 'em.
