cheap stuff

I saw this post on CDM about some upcoming deals on plug-ins that look pretty interesting. I'm especially interested in checking out the VCS knock-off. Also, audiomidi.com still has a deal going through Monday for AAS Ultra Analog for $15. I downloaded it a while ago, but haven't played with it much. It's a little thin-sounding to start, but the filters have a handful of different distortion algorithms that fatten it up pretty decently. Definitely worth $15 dollars at any rate.

Also, I've been looking at this guy's software, and it looks pretty interesting. It's all built in Max/MSP; Gleetchlab and Berna are both stand-alone sound-design toys. Gleetchplug looks sort of like that old PC program Granulab, except with tons more effects (convolution, feedback, delays) and a big ass matrix to route stuff. Berna is an emulation on an old electro-acousting/radiophonic type studio with a bunch of tone generators and "tape machines". Both of these programs are only 10.69 Euro (about $15 each).

I hope that this post will finally bump that Hudson Mohawke thing with auto-play sound off the main page.

AB5

Spent last Sunday smoking and digging through my college CDs (Yee-King, anyone? Bogdan?) and unearthed Analogue Bubblebath 5. Been banging it non-stop all week.

I always thought it was the best of all the Bubblebaths, but gotdamn...how this shit never saw a proper release I cannot understand. Melodies are timeless and the bass is completely obscene.

Does anybody have decent sounding files for this? Mine are 192kbps but must have come from 64s because they sound terrible (and beautiful).

Downloading a bunch of torrents now since someone has clean AB5 files (though the track list and order are wrong), but thought one of you may have the goodz.

Bacon and Kid Drawings

These are drawings that I ran across while at work. They are kid drawings, and one has the word bacon on it. I have no idea what context they were being used in, but it made me giggle.

Trek to Terabithia (with little water)

From the origins of this journey; WorldSpectacular and his comrades MRK82 and Ras Judah embark on a lifetime journey, in which they must partake in an epic trek across the Sudan and up to the northern horn of Africa before taking a hot air balloon across the Mediterranean Sea, and into Europe. Their travels see them transport telepathically, and physically by many forms of modern transportation in order to find the truth. With few resources, they depend on one another, a keen astrological connection, and the vibrations of mother earth, herself. Although unbeknownst to them at the time of searching these lands, part of their purpose is to locate their ancient kingdom and ultimately restore Ma'at for literal, metaphorical, and the metaphysical benefit of the sun, moon, and stars.

sqrt update

I burned myself a couple of times destroying $4 made in china toys with solder. It was fun. Nothing worth posting audio wise or picture wise, but it sounded funny before I burnt the IC up. I hocked a couple of the drums I had purchased, and when I get a chance I will post those up, cause I rigged them on some funny sqrt stands. It makes me want to get into making really nice drums. I went to Wichita (home of BTK and a bunch of old fucking warehouses) for a biz trip too. Ended up here one night, don't fuckin ask. I didn't get in a fight though, and all parties involved were lucky, mainly me cause I was mad outnumbered.

I also got randomly harrassed by the fuzz. I was sitting in a bar with 4 people I worked with (they were playing disco mashups of top 40 shit, and had the clientele of a redneck pool hall). I was fixed up and lookin sharp, with a white boy polo on, and two cops came right up to me and asked me if just came in the bar. I told them that I was on my third beer, and they walked off. It freaked the people out I was working with, now I am the sketchy kid that the fuzz harasses.

and I wrote a little electronic type of tune.

virtual boy

remember this crappy crap?

doesn't "virtual boy" sound so pedophilish?

but on the real, the arturia virtual synth vst's are off the chain. i've been having endless hours of pointless fun with this one (combined with a midi knob box, of course!):

in other news, this record is retarded good (i picked it out randomly at the store because it had hot 70s girls on the cover and mispelled words on the back):

clicky

i think boomkat recorded one of the tracks at the wrong (slow) speed.
i'll probably record it and upload it for dl if anyone shows even the slightest bit of interest.

Recording and an Ambient Tune

I have a 8 track recording system that I have good handle on and is very portable (nothing fancy, just an MOTU 828 ver 1, a couple of large and small diaphragm mics, a 57, a 58, and a on loan D112). It isn't the highest quality of gear, but most of it works and for the most part I can get clean signals. I like to take this around and record bands in their practice space. It is fun and makes me friends. I recorded some friends of mine a time or two, and I posted some pictures above. I also cut some samples out of the recording and made a noisey ambient track. Here it be.
Note on the kick head placement in this pic, I got a much better sound the second time moving the mic off the sound hole, right in the center of the head, about 3-5" back. Good thud.
