Speaker Robot

I was in a hippy coffee shop in KC, watching some coffee shop muzak jam, and the hippy coffee shop had a speaker robot in the corner of the room. Maybe I should give hippies more credit?

WALKMAN?

peeved neighbors

have really been into eating Frosted Mini Spooners (AKA Frosted Mini wheat's)
with out milk, it is a very tasty treat.
BUT why in the world do they call them FROSTED when most of them are NOT FROSTED.

WTF????????????????????????????????????

I shouldn't buy shit on online auctions

cause when I do, it ends up being like 50 kid drums. Yeah, 10 drums sets full of kiddy drums. Me and my Kansas clique set up a neil peart metal style 12 piece kiddy drums set this weekend. So you wanna be hard core. But like I said, I shouldn't buy shit on online auctions.

So now what do I do with them. I am going to make me a little drums set, and 2 of my friends little drumsets. But then I still have like 40 drums and shells left. I was thinking a drum piano, or a huge drum line that 4 or 5 drummers just run around and play on. Or, mega kits. Or sculpture projects. or firewood. Any ideas?

Plone song in a Reese's Commmercial

I saw this on TV yesterday. I hadn't heard the song in years, but recognized it after a second.

hip hop is utterly gay.

so i've had this theory for a while that hip hop is, at its core, gay. all the stuff about tappin that ass with your boys in the room, not lovin' hoes, staying true to yer dogs, wearing jewelry, designer labels and what not. it's all about male-on-male domination, but it's so shrouded in machismo that the mainstream has mistakenly accepted it as pure hetero aggression. i mean, fiddy, lil' wayne, tupac, fucking PUFFY....how could those guys NOT be gay? how many rappers also have fashion labels? or fragrances? with that in mind, at least watch a minute or two of this.

Now That's What I Call The Best of RSS! Vol. 1

Complete lack of perspective is a problem for many people. They should probably be going out and making some cool shit.

Then again, there is a lot to just throw your hands up at, so much that sometimes you feel like stabbing people or something equally socially unacceptable just to see the lack of normalcy reflected on others' faces.

IDM as a term is definitely dead, but the spirit of innovation is there, although from my perspective, it's hiding 80% of the time. I'm trying to think of a band / person that gave me a similar feeling of novelty, like "whoa, nobody fucking thought of this yet", and the only band I can come up with is the Books, who I can take or leave on most days. I listen to some records I hear good things about, and most of them are pretty good, but a lot of them are just "eh" (including that one). Good, but nothing super special.

I guess I'm stuck in a period where I'm trying to listen to as many different kinds of music as possible, maybe to catch something I've missed, with very few preconditions. The only preconditions are like "no Barbra Streisand". Elliott Smith I never really listened to a whole lot, but Brian was the one who first discovered him among my friends, and Faye likes the shit out of his music. old David Bowie I haven't heard in decades (and maybe never). Rest Proof Clockwork and Not For Threes (both of which I had never bought, and haven't listened to probably since the 219 days). Muslimgauze, which led me to discover that the "rarity" of this guy's releases and their attendant exorbitant prices are, imho, way way WAY out of fucking proportion to the quality of the music. Yeah, he uses a bunch of Middle Eastern samples and stuff, and it's vaguely critical of the Western stance regarding the Middle East in general. Yippee. Too bad the songs are like 8 or 12 minutes of the same hand-drum loop with 2 or 3 variations and little bits of static or dialogue (or really vanilla electro-type shit, in the later records).

There are some encouraging things out there, but I guess what I'm saying is: are you guys seeing them? Where the hell are they? Ned, were you gripped by a similar feeling and chose to approach it by getting rid of your gear?

This is all excepting the new TWH, of course. That stuff is the jizzam.

Is IDM Dead?

I had a conversation with TWH a long while ago about some funny articles I had read about IDM being dead. I am not sure anything IDM ever lived. It would be like saying was Prog Rock ever Funky. I wrote a little email with some links in it, saved as a draft, and never sent it.

The Igloo on is kinda funny, they are the same people who accused NYF of using a sampled Autechre sound on Cloud Control and said the i broke my robots album was not a good baby making humping record.

You guys like my new shoes?

They match my bumblebee costume.

finally.

So Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata made number 30 on the hype machine's "popular" list. I just want to thank all the bloggers who were ahead of the curve on this one helping my man, Ludwig Van, finally get the comeuppance he deserves...

ICT Fest in Wichita

I got some boys in Lawrence that hail from Wichita and they like to play music. Being from Wichita, they know the hip events going down in South Central (kansas). They were playing in this three day music festival called ICT Fest. I went down for the last day of the event, and it rocked. I saw some really good bands and a couple of amazing drummers, (Muscle Worship, Falcon Crest, Total Fucking Blood, STNNNG, just to name a few. This is billed as an Indy Rock type of festival, but there was some good metal, and some Pantera metal too. $2 Bud draft, neck hurts from headbanging, face is numb still, mad PBR and Jim Beam in the parking lot, met tons of cool people (believe it or not, there are mad cool people in Kansas) and let me say this again, saw some killer drummers. Wichita is an alright town too, hit some bars, hit some parties, hit some Wichita Slam Dance (not near as hard core as that that Winston Slam Dance, but still fun).

BFResident BFRrtist.

So as far as i can tell, i'm going to be a resident artist at the elsewhere collective in greensboro NC. A big part of my application/proposal to participate in this 6-10 week project involves a good deal of audio work. I don't mean to blow up the spot, but i used this blog as a reference to that. I was all like "yeah, most of these dudes are interested in theory and do electronic music.. i'm sure i could post some stuff and they'd help remix and interpret my documentation of this experience..." I assumed most of y'all would be down... but I'm going to officially ask if you'd mind helping me out with "DANCE MUSIC IS THE BOMB".

thanks

finally, someone's sorted it all out.

Joker Rustie Brother Reade

One time jimmy told me me he had a weird dream and when i took the bait and asked him what it was he produced this long and vivid recollection of waking up in hell and seeing a huge pot of delicious food surrounded by some starving people with spoons too long to feed themselves with. He told me that he was taken to heaven then and saw the same pot of food, only this time it was surrounded by fat, healthy angels because they were using their spoons to feed each other. wow.
I found out a day or two later that this is a pretty popular passage from "Chicken Soup for the Soul" and this dream was just a joke he ran with. A year later I convinced him the japanese word for "socks" was "dickhole" to get even. I guess we can laugh about it now.

I was incredulous when I ran into Jimmy two fridays ago at the Krankie Leg and Jimmy told me he just finished a song he did with Joker and Rustie. I've got google on my phone, so you can't even play like that, dude.

Just saw this quote on the Planet Mu board...

"if i found out tudikas was a new rephlex release that would be legit in my book."

Go go gadget Tudikas!

going out on a saturday night

so i wanted to go see pj pooterhoots last night, but i've got the whole biscuit thing going reeeeeal early. i do, however, have two choices tonight: l'usine (ghostly int'l...idm as fuck) or XI (lodubs...dubstep as fuck). i'm leaning towards l'usine if not just because i don't think i can stand any more day-glo kanye west lookin motherfuckers trying to dance to music made to herald the arrival of megatron. the bass on good club speakers would be nice..... and idm is getting kind of middle aged, but at least it's usually sophisticated enough to have me all "what the hell is that dude doing with that knob up there?" wheras dubstep always has me all like "damn this shit all sounds the same." cylob will be here next weekend, so i don't want to get all cynical tonight and spoil it. what should i do?

Music nerd of the day...

...is this guy. Scroll down to the bottom to see the transcription for Zomby's Kaliko. Seriously. Dude just wrote out every note for a qualude-crunk tune. And I thought I was analytical! Something tells me we would have gotten along well with this guy in school.

First person to print out and play that "sheet music" gets the next BFC release.

Computer Music

I found this site and picture while looking for a design idea to put on a bass drum head. Yeah, I am sure this was on the last page of some wanker computer gamer magazine. Side note, I have an old marching bass drum as a coffee table in my apartment.

Anyone have a good idea for a front bass drum head design? I am thinking an outer space scene with aliens and shit, or some trippy spira, or an Escher triangle. My friends that are going to do it are very talented, but I have to tell them what I want on it. So if you have any ideas, let me know.
